AQUATIC PLANTS

Aquatic plants are plants that grow in or around water, either submerged, floating on the surface, or growing along the edges of water bodies like lakes, rivers, ponds, and wetlands. These plants are specially adapted to live in environments with varying levels of water, and they can thrive in both freshwater and saltwater ecosystems.

There are several types of aquatic plants:

Submerged plants

Floating plants

Emergent plants

Aquatic plants are essential for the health of aquatic ecosystems. They help improve water quality by absorbing excess nutrients, reduce the impact of water erosion, and provide oxygen through photosynthesis. Additionally, they serve as food sources for herbivorous animals, contribute to the biodiversity of aquatic habitats, and offer nesting sites for various species of birds and insects.

In addition to their ecological roles, aquatic plants are also valued in horticulture and aquariums for their beauty and ability to help maintain water clarity.
